U.S. #467 5c Error in block of 9
The rare 5c Error of Color, the middle stamp in a block of 9 is a 5-cent surrounded by the correct 2c stamps (#463). The error was caused by re-entering the 2c Plate No. 7921 with the wrong master transfer roller. The 5c transfer roller was mistakenly used to re-enter positions U.S. 74, U.L. 84, and L.R. 18 in the 2c plate to repair those subjects. The plate was printed in the normal rose color, resulting in a 5c stamp in the wrong color.
The block is lightly cancelled. The center error stamp is unhinged, but has minor gum fault so cannot be graded as MNH.
