The publishers of the Scott Catalog were challenged by the format of the Wild Orchid Coil series of 10 stamps. In formating for the Plate Number Coil the orthodox tradition calls for a strip of 17 stamps stamps with the Plate Numbered Stamp in the middle position. This format does not, however, allow for a strip to fit any current stamp album page. The solution was found in what will be a Scott Catalog Listed Variety as a strip of 10 stamps with the Plate Number Coil Stamp in the #9 Position.
