Legends of Hollywood Series
This incredibly popular series of annual issues from the United States Post Office is one of the most successful and longest running undertakings in modern philately
The first issue, in 1995, features a Marilyn Monroe portrait by artist Michael J. Deas. He captured Marilyn Nonroe in a sensual glamour without presenting her as a cliched sex symbol.
In our selection below there is included one issue which is not a part of the series. Bob Hope (#4406), certainly a Legend of Hollywood, was represented in the format of the series. However, Hope's honoring on a postal issue is as much for his years of dedicated service to USO entertaining the troops as for his film career.
Not included, but worth pursuing for the true Hollywood Aficionado are the many film related issues; Silent Films Stars, Cowboys of the Silver Screen, Black Cinema, Greta Garbo and, yes, Ronald Reagan, and many more.
